A Family Tradition – Photo Gallery

Our history begins with Lawrence R. MacQueen and his wife, Agnes Boden Hay. The sailed from Scotland in the early 1930’s and settled in Pottersville by the mid 1940’s. Here is Larry with his first champion Field Trial pup, “Staindrop Hurricane of Greenfair” in 1942. Larry was an experienced and knowledageble handler for Laboradores and English Cocker Spaniels, and later making the switch to English Springer Spaniels.

This is an image of Pottersville, December 25th, 1942. In some ways, the town has changed dramatically since then, but it remains a small and quiet town, tucked away from the busy roads and general stresses of everyday life.

And this is Ramornie Kennel. Named after his birthplace in Scotland, Larry first built his kennel (located to the right of the current DHK property) to serve as a training grounds and facility to prepare his dogs for Field Trial competitions. Throughout his career, Larry had over 25 Field Trial Champion dogs including one international, and one national.

There are distinct characteristics for the MacQueen family. First and foremost, they cherish their dogs, as they are an extension of their family. Secondly, they like things that go fast, especially cars and motorcycles. Not only is this a great photo from the past, but shows a combined love for both.

“Wivenwood Willie” earned his National Champion title in 1969 after only training with Larry for one full year. “I’ve always felt that the springer is the most exciting sporting dog,” Larry reported to Sports Illustrated. “They are the hardest to train, because they are expected to do more at a trial under tighter control than any other breed.”
